Formed in 1996 by the Association of Bearsden Churches, The Way Ahead Group is for people of all ages and faiths who are recovering after a stroke.
Members are able to meet with others in a similar situation, to share experiences and to take part in exercise under the guidance of two qualified physiotherapists.
The Way Ahead Group usually meets weekly on Thursdays at 1.15pm in the Main and Lesser Halls of Killermont Parish Church, Bearsden.
(From 2nd May 2013 meetings will be held in Bearsden Baptist Church, Roman Road)
The Group hopes to return to enhanced facilities at Killermont once the building redevelopment is complete.)
A team of 70-80 volunteers, from the local community as well as churches, help with transport and the smooth running of the Club.
Outings are also arranged in Summer and at Christmas.
During the afternoon sessions at Killermont, members can take part in group exercises; and some individual treatment is available too.
Refreshments and delicious home baking are provided to complete the afternoon’s activity.
Prospective new members are first assessed by Sister Dorward, recently retired as Stroke Liaison Sister, Glasgow Western Infirmary Stroke Unit.
