The formation of a Committee Structure within Killermont Parish Church was largely as a result of the Christian Commitment Programme (CCP), a Church of Scotland initiative launched and executed in the late 1990′s.
The positive and encouraging outcome of this community exercise involving, amongst many other activities, a visit to every home in the Parish, resulted in a call to everyone, member or not, to review their lives and more particularly, their commitment to the Church.
The increased number of members willing to take a more active role in church life was a significant factor in the successful changeover to a new Committee Structure, with the objectives and work of its constituent parts explained more fully below the following list of current Committees:
- Communications Group
- Education Group
- Mission Group
- Pastoral Group
- Stewardship Group
- Worship Group
- Coordinating Group
Each Group is led by a Convenor, who occupies the position for an initial period of three years, but can volunteer and be re-elected for a further term.
- Communications Group – Convenor Mrs Shona MacLachlan
The Communications Group comprises the Events Team and Publications Team, whose names reflect their principal purposes.
Education Group – Convenor Ms Margaret Gilchrist
The Education Group oversees the education of the congregation from new-born to the eldest.
It bears responsibility for provision of Creche facilities where appropriate, for Killermont Kiddies, the relatively new and increasingly popular parent and toddler group which meets weekly in the Church halls.
The range of Sunday Clubs detailed separately on this page, plus a Youth Group that meets on Sundays are also administered and supported by the Education Group.
A Bible Study Group that addresses carefully chosen and relevant parts of the Bible completes the Education Group’s current offerings.
Mission Group – Convenor Mr Ian Steven
The Mission Group’s objective is “to encourage members of the Church, and non-members, to be actively involved in the task of practical Christian witness and outreach”.
It comprises two Teams; the Wider World Mission Team and the Mission Strategy Team, and also manages our considerable input to the innovative Hill Project in Clydebank.
The Mission Group is determined that the followers of Jesus in Killermont do not become an ageing and marginalised few within our community.
Pastoral Group – Convenor Mrs Jessie Cameron
The work of pastoral care in the Killermont and Kessington areas of Bearsden is delivered by this committee’s members, together with several other volunteers.
Visits are made on a regular basis to care home residents, housebound and the elderly who are unable to come to the church building.
A car rota helps to minimise the numbers who can’t attend personally and the flower committee members are responsible for distribution of the beautiful arrangements which appear in the Sanctuary on a Sunday, thereby considerably extending the joy and comfort that flowers bring.
Tea ‘n’ Chat, held fortnightly, is yet another innovative idea that comes under the responsibility of the Pastoral Group.
Stewardship Group
The Stewardship Group coordinates the financial, property and administrative matters of the Church and consists of the Finance Team under the Leadership of Margaret Gray, Estates Team coordinated by David Wilson and an Administrative Team headed up by the Church Secretary, Deborah Chestnutt.
Worship Group – Convenor Mr David Sherry
Amongst many other duties and responsibilities, the Worship Group addresses provision of music and associated aspects of worship.
Such activities as purchasing of a new digital piano and Anthem Books for the Choir, to enhance the services, is matched by attention to important details such as the design and procurement of Welcome Cards and acquisition of new cushions provided for the congregation by a generous donation.
Coordinating Group – Convenor Mr Bill McMillan
As the name suggests, this Group ensures that the Committees address their specific areas and tasks, yet work together for the good of the Church and its congregation.
